OMG! I’m actually glad! Glad that nothing happened to the 5 main cast of GW – even Eli! So glad it wasnt Delia! Poor Prof Bedford – no peace even at death – the ending was really creepy. The Book of Changes choses where to go. The shadows are really creepy.
JLH looked really good in this episode. And it’s true – you never really die coz you’re always loved and you live in the memories of those who do.

I loved the intro. Music rocked, and JLH & Camryn were just having the most fun I’d seen in episodes (Seasons?). I loved the reference to ‘times are tough’ and the vintage Ts comment was definitely giggle-inducing. Dibbs on that mess-kit, which Coleman still makes today, but isn’t as sturdy.
Eli’s office dis-organization scene brought back such strong school memories; didn’t everyone dump project stuff out of a backpack after school or in study hall? And wasn’t there always one teacher (who even the other teachers didn’t like) who’d drop things on top of the piles you were organizing to add more work with a smirk (the jerk)?
(OK, that wasn’t nice, they were really just acting like jerks while being fully capable of better behavior but I digress.)
I loved the funeral, and how Connor & JLH talked at bedtime. It was more real than you can imagine, and the chemistry was just perfect! The wisdom part was so spot on. I loved Giovanni the Turtle (OK, Francis the bear was neat too…
) And yes, young boys do have stuffed animals (just watch out for bear-alanches). The wisdom part was so spot on.
And then the explosion where the house is gone and she can’t find her family. That was scary…and hit a chord with everyone who has kids.
After the intro, the give-and take with JLH & Camryn was back and they just had fun! And I have to complement the Director here specifically about something. Its hard enough to see things in people that you know work and don’t and to say to good friends ‘please do this, please don’t do that’. But its got to be darn near impossible to do that to yourself, not without forcing yourself to watch hours and hours of yourself on film, all while hoping you remembered what you were thinking, feeling, and trying for that day when it was filmed. In the scene when the mess kit moved and her head looked at the kit, her eyes darted up to Camryn’s flawlessly. I say again: for someone to tell you to do that & to male a perfect shot is hard. For you to know what you can do and to do that beautifully is just… Wow.
George the collector: so real that I felt I knew that guy. (And kudos for the “Don’t get a lot of customers that look like you..” comment Creating a great first impression must get old, on behalf of all of us who you have to deal with that get knocked back after glance one, I’m sorry. But, to be fair, that black leather jacket rocked harder than Diana Riggs cat-suit from The Avengers.) Also, the whole ‘paperwork’ thing rings so true to me, as a paper trail means he’d have to report the income. Also, only miss so far: when filming the rail-shot of JLH walking, the cameraman was so focused on JLH that the ‘Sergeant’ sign couldn’t be read. I know, cameraman is a sexist term, but if he’s following that jacket that closely, it seems a pretty safe bet. I only mention it as it blew a line of well timed/spoken dialog 30 seconds later.
The next scene, when she is walking down the stairs (right when the credits flash “directed by Jennifer Love Hewitt”, I really started to love the stuff the camera was panning by in the basement, which matches to the story to me. A good antiques dealer is like the Smithsonian; only some of the stuff is upstairs at any one time. (Personal favorite: The red stained glass martini glass.)
When she’s with Eli, he says “Someone should invent a scanner that tells you not only the price of what you are buying, but if there is a ghost attached to it.” (Note: Itunes store has apps ‘RedLaser’ for ‘Ghost Hunter EMF’ and ‘Ghost Hunter EVP’ for your Iphone. Just sayin’ .
) It took a minute to realize that this was his apt, not his office. Still, was that corned beef? Still, JK, JLH and Christoph all had a lot of fun there & it came right through. Kudos for neat ally special effects with Bruce Davison in blue moonlight walking one way and shadow-wraiths moving up another.
The chase scene was neat, but how that guy has a Hummer is beyond me. The line ‘I’ve never been on these roads’ seems like a re-write. The car they are in has a GPS built into the dash, so I’m wondering if the original line was ‘I don’t know, the GPS doesn’t show these roads” but it got sponsor-nuked.
JK’s line about being “lured to their deaths & no one finding their bodies”. JLH shot him such a look!!! (was there a mirror there?) Again, perfect facial expression and self-directed. The base scene was sort of stock, but nice, but the next scene….
OK, I don’t know who to thank here. Coffee on a front porch. A beautiful night. And train whistles are softly echoing in from the hills. If JLH and Camryn were talking about 2006 Tax Code, I’d have still wanted to be there. Yes, there was more plot discussion/advancement of a soldier with a boys voice, but the memorable moment and quotable line was Camryn’s:
“Wow. It must be really really interesting to be you….” *clink*
That scene looked like home, sounded like home, and right then, it felt like home. I think every viewer watching wanted to clink a coffee cup to the TV screen right then. I think in prior episodes I’ve mentioned ‘pinning the needle’. If it was ever unclear exactly what I meant, please watch this scene again. Make sure you bring a tissue & 2 Splenda for the coffee.
Jaysus, 10 seconds later people, and you do it again! The shop scene, with fresh cut yellow orange tulips. How does she slowly approach a closed closet like a ghost gracefully gliding across a floor all the while emoting fear? And while Joey Luthman tried and rose to the occasion wonderfully, he did not steal her scene.
Pin.
Next scene is a PC in the kitchen scene where Jim makes Melinda a sandwich and kisses her on the head while she’s trying to find the boy who died. David carried that off wonderfully!
Pin.
Camryn comes in from off-stage, stricken (white as a sheet) with a flier about the very boy who died. She may call that acting, but I’ve seen enough people in shock to know that looked so darn real.
Pin.
“I’ve gotta find this kid…see if I can get his family some closure….”
Pin.
Back on the base, its more standard investigation ( 1)did JK really have to set off a mine? 2) 1/4 inch Corrugated steel walls would not have saved either of them. If he’d tripped and had just come close to one, it would have been enough. )
But, when they opened that green locker, the tension build and the shock on JLH’s face pulled it out.
Pin.
The scene with Julie outside of the funeral home had such a small-town feel to it. I can’t say I’ve had a lot to say in churches, or even in funeral homes in front of a coffin. But on the sidewalks outside, either with people grieving or smoking… those conversations are real. Thank you for making the most subtle of POV changes. Yes, it was to advance the plot, but the where and the how mattered and were done well.
Pin.
Bruce Davison’s scene in the ally in the creepy black Cadillac was well done; he was very conflicted and unhappy and it did come through.
The base scene with Joey, when he’s talking about his Dad. That just resonated with me personally. I take my boys camping. I’ve even stopped at a local park and have let my boys play on the tank monument.
I’m realizing that I still don’t know why Detective Blair was transferred, or why Joey’s mother was in Melinda’s shop. There has to be a reason….
But Bruce Davidson is very effectively creepy in menacing Camryn. The only way I can see why she’d take that is because she’s in sales and is stuck with ‘the customer is always right’ philosophy.
The Office scene with JK was good, but it was formulaic. The explosion was massive was and I honestly thought that they were going to shrapnel someone out of the show.
(I am so glad I was wrong!)
But the crossing over scene with Joey. The “Nobody ever dies” dialog was just… Amazing.
Pin.
The scene between Camryn and Christoph, when she puts her hand over his heart…
Pin.

Pin, with a smilie bonus!

So, after gorging myself on the best broadcast television created today, what have I learned?
* That GM really really likes their products showcased in every scene imaginable.
(for God’s sake, don’t ever have JK bend over while filming, or they’ll have a tow-truck cable yank a Denali out of his jeans.)
* That this team is so good, they really can bring it week after week.
*That 30 years from now, people will still be watching episodes being filmed today.
* That Reality TV will never be a threat to real TV done by professionals who love their craft.
* That JLH is an Amazing Director! One who is so good, people are now going to try to drag her behind the scenes more and more often. Which means we are going to start to see less of her as seasons progress and as she gets asked to do other projects….
…which I should be happy for her about…
*And that as a viewer, I’m really, really selfish.

thanks Quietman for your episode review which I value greatly and look forward to each episode !
I think JLH did a great great job at directing and as much as I hope she sees more work in that field , I hope it doesn’t take her away from our screens any less !
The coffee on the porch and the very end scenes were my favourites as they were very homely , personal , and real and I love that in GW.
It will be very interesting to see where 516 will go now that Prof. Bedford is a spirit.
But u know what..i was really dissapointed that David Conrad didnt get to play a bigger part in this 100th Episode – he’s been there from the beginning wit JLH in GW – she should have given him more importance in this milestone episode. As usual like before, there was too much of JK and too little of DC. That was really frustrating.

I agree , and I know we sound like broken records sometimes LOL but the 100th episode should have included original cast member David a lot more than JK in my opinion !
Your not going to be very happy though , up and coming episodes 17 and 18 have JK / Eli all over them again , its getting a bit like Batman and Robin but its Melinda and Eli instead . I don’t know how much air time David will actually get in those eps from the promotional details and photos I have seen so far its not much at all again and I am getting a bit over it , its The Ghost Whisperer not Ghost HUnters or The Ghost Whisperer Team or The Ghost Whispering Couple etc etc , I do love the show but I guess I would just like to see a show without Eli for a change , the old style GW when its just Melinda – anyway we will see what 516 has instore for us very soon !
Okay, I am hooked on thsi show. I haven’t seen it from the beginning but I watched everyday when I was prego. (I had twins so, since Nov. that I haven’t seen the show) I started again a week ago and realized that Jim kind of died and is now in “sam’s” body.. WTH??? Someone explain what happened. I stayed where these kids survive some accidents and they start drawing some thing and when they bring their drawings together it’s a portrait of melinda… now I come to find out Jim is not Jim and Eli and Melinda are solving the gost problems… who is eli?? gosh.. I am frustrated!
