So for Melinda to call him Jim in front of everyone would be weird cuz according to everyone at the funeral, Jim died quite some time ago. They never show his reflection as Sam anymore, his ID tag, though never a clear shot does show a dark haired picture and at Eli's dad's funeral, Melinda in front of everyone says "Jim" stall for a minute.
